St Lucia Learning project

Tomorrow Zoe, once again, is leaving for St Lucia, to volunteer in the St Lucia Learning project:
About SLLP
A vision without a task is a dream. A task without a vision is drudgery. A vision and a task is the hope of the world.
-Donald Reeves
Our vision is to help the children of St. Lucia to reach their true potential. Our task is to come alongside them, providing enriched learning opportunities and to give them hope for the future.

Frazzled

Ok, this book seems like one I should read but also all of you if you love me! (That is what the title says, so there....). I was home for approximately 3 days in June and while I am back I also have so much work, I am feeling frazzled. The title of the book made me laugh. So if you are looking for a summer read, here you go! Have a glass of wine on me.

Revere Academy

While I was in Milwaukee at bead and Button, I tool a class with Revere Academy from San Francisco. It was not to complete a finished piece of jewelry, it was focused on correct technique. What a great class it was. I would love to take their course. I like their name. It is after the founder whose last name it is, but it also is French for dreamy.... Well, that would be my dream. Maybe one day when I retire?

Possibilitarian

Do you know what the work "Possibilitarian" means? I didn't. When I read the editorial by Jo Packham in "Where women create" of this month, I had no idea this word existed. She writes about how so many of us dream of all possibilities but don't actually "make" something often. She describes how the dreaming of these things is also a creative outlet, and in fact for many, the actual creative process. I experience that. I am forever ready to make my masterpiece but lack the time and opportunity to actually work on it. I do however see endless possibilities and dream about what could be and hopefully, one day, will be. That dreaming though is where at least I am creative and drift into making wonderful pieces in my mind and explore the possibilities that exist. It is such a wonderful way to spend time, and that is exactly what I did at Bead and Button in Milwaukee. There is such a gathering of talented people, some of who are "makers" and others who are "dreamers". We all collect and add to our stash, or as my friend Rebekah calls it, the vault. I think we are all possibilitarians. It means: Someone who believes that there are always possibilities, if you look for them. The word comes from Norman Vincent 'Power of Positive Thinking' Peale, who wrote: "I challenge you to become a 'possibilitarian'. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see the possibilities - always see them, for they are always there."(wiki definition).  I did manage to make my first cabochon ring with Janet Alexander, a great instructor.

From today onward I am coming out as a proud possibilitarian at heart!

How time flies....

Well, it has been a while! Have gone to Maui and have been back for a week. It feels like so long ago already. I am packing for my next business and pleasure trip. I am attending the American Society for Clinical Oncology Annual meeting in Chicago and am driving to Bead and Button in Milwaukee right after. Maui was fantastic. Here are some fun pictures. We swam, we lazed around, we snorkeled, I dove, john windsurfed, we read, are, hiked, watched surfers and the list goes on. It is truly an amazing island and I am already wanting to go back. Alas, that will have to wait.....

Feeling a litle lighter

Well, so far my weight is down a bit. I am not sure if it is because of Dukan or just because I am watching what I eat. Dukan is a little strange and for me hard to follow to the letter... Oh well, who cares, I am going to do it my way. How unlike me eh?....!

Baby Boomers

If the Dukan diet pays off, I will not be part of this. However, it is likely that I will! Enjoy!:

More Dukan diet

No pictures, because no stunning results yet despite what the book says. The French must have a different metabolism. I am hungry, want vegetables and fruit and some fiber would make me feel better too. Something has got to give or the book will be for sale ......

Memories

Last night I was looking at my pictures from Japan in 2009. It brought back so many great memories. The trip to Kamakura from Tokyo was just amazing. Here are some pictures:

These statues of are in the Hase Kamon Temple: a temple to help the souls of unborn children, to help their soul to salvation.

This Buddha is 13 meters high. May peace be with you
